The following reference comes from court minutes of Madison Co.,TN, pg. 442, Nov 5, 1832: "James R. Stewart, Benjamin Lee and wife Partheny, Jesse L. Edney and wife Cynthia, and Joseph C. Steward, heirs of James Steward, deceased, were entitled to 800 acres located on Johnson Creek, Madison County; they petitioned to have same divided among themselves (which included heirs of Elisha T. Steward and Anna Hughy.) I have found a reference at Familysearch.com that Cynthia Stewart married Jesse L. Edney on Dec 12, 1830 in Davidson Co., TN, and we do know that our Stewards were in Davidson Co. prior to Madison Co. We are not sure of the spelling of the family name, as it is shown in records as Stuart, Stewart, and Steward, but descendants of James R., migrated to Rusk Co., TX, and White Co., AR. If you have any info on the family of Cynthia Steward, we would appreciate hearing from you. We are assuming that the petitioners were siblings and possibly children of the deceased James Steward.
