This Joseph Eggleston consistently shows as born in 1813 NY, through the census records. The first actual sighting of him is in 1842, Galena, Jo Daviess Co., IL. On Jan. 9, 1842, he marries Amelia Almira Backus. They show up in the 1850 census for that area. From there, he ends up in Napa, CA, where he dies on Jan. 21, 1877.
At first I thought he was the son of Arthur/Arter/Artemus Eggleston, b. 1784/5 in Corinth, Saratoga Co. NY and Lovina Edna Smalley. Arthur died in Vinton Co. OH abt. 1863. I was wrong about them being the parents because their son Joseph who was the same age as my mystery Joseph, lived in Pickaway Co., OH.
Can anyone tell me if one of Bigod Eggleston's descendants had a son named Joseph born in 1813, other than the one in Pickaway Co., OH?
