The Eib family came from Alsace-Lorraine, an area that has moved back and forth between France and Germany. A Frederic Eib sent a letter to American Eibs quite a few years ago and I responded with a family tree last year, but have not had a response yet. Eib mean yew tree. I believe that there are endings and variations that German-Americans have added to the name.

The Frederic Eib who sent the letter to my husband's uncle looks like my husband who is Balthasar Eib's grgrgrandson.

My understanding is that Freceric Eib was writing an Eib genealogy.

Recently I have noticed that Balthasar Eib's son John and his wife named their children in what appears to be a given order so I believe that perhaps Balthasar Eib's wife was a Karolyn something.

If anyone is interested in contacting Frederic Eib, please email me directly.
