Several researchers who have posted their trees online have Mary Elam (b. about 1640), the eventual wife of John Cox, as the daughter of William Elam and Elizabeth Elam. Normally when I see this, it means someone just gave the wife's married name because they don't know the last name (There's someone in this line whom about half the online researchers have identified with the rare last name, at least about Europeans, Lnu. Can we just leave the last name BLANK when we don't know it, please?) Anyway, there's some circumstantial evidence that I'm interpreting as Elizabeth actually being an Elam, perhaps a cousin to William. Does anyone know anything definitively on this family?
