I noticed your mention of the Ewald name in your posting....I have Ewalds from Detroit - and they were from the Danzig/Gdansk area as well. From church records, I have located the birthplace of my gggrandmother (who md. Ewald) as Gorrenschin, Kr. Karthaus, West Prussia, now Goreczyno, Kartuzy, Gdansk, Poland; she was a Wiszniewski. I have as yet been unable to locate their marriage site or Ewald's hometown. Have you had any luck...?

Later, in this country, an Ewald married a Ritter; the Ritters were alleged to have spoken Kashub. From church records at Burton, I see the senior Ritter, b. @1865 listed as being from "Pommern."

Any of this mean anything to you?

Mary Beth
