Hello Tammi:
**I have found the following info duplicated on various sites on the internet under both Private Samuel Elder sr, and Judge Samuel Elder**"Private Samuel Elder Sr served in the Revolutionary War in Benjamin Roebuck's Regiment of South Carolina Militia. After the death of his mother, he went to live with an uncle in Kentucky (Marion area). His uncle rode horseback from Kentucky to get Samuel, and Sam rode back to Kentucky on the saddle behind his uncle.Samuel returned to South Carolina and married Nancy Margaret Pinnell in 1808.Sam's father remarried and reared another family.Sam and Nancy went back to Kentucky near Marion, and lived there until they were the parents of seven children. He moved to Illinois Territory about 1824 and bought his homestead from Coleman Brown, and built a double log house. He owned most of the land where the present city of Eldorado now stands in Gallatin County, Illinois. He served as Justice-of-the-peace, member of the county court, school commissioner, and first judge of Saline County, Illinois. There was another Samuel Elder in the county which was proven later to be his cousin, a son of his brother, William Elder."
Census, 1850, IL, Saline Co, Curran Pct. indicates John & Nancy Elder, both age 60, farmer, Prop value $1,000, both born in SC.
