Frank Herbert Eldredge family items found
I work for the Post Office and also do Genealogy as a hobby. On 01/12/07 we had a envelope/package get damaged and broken open. The original packaging was lost but the contents where recovered and are from the Eldredge family of New York. The photos and papers are all old and
valuable to someone in that family. I need your help in finding someone in this family so that I can forward them these photos and papers. A brief description of the 50 some items follows. I sincerely hope that someone
out there can help.
1.Picture of a young man in his late teens to early 20's, dressed in a suit w/vest and bowtie. Labeled "Brother Joseph William Eldredge".
2.Picture of three people, 2 women, one of each side of 1 man. "Labeled "Aunt Leny Mother" - "leny family mother Leny" - "Alfonzo" - Annie Leny". The man is in a suit and from the way the three are dressed picture was probably taken in the 1940's.
3.Another picture of the same three people, sitting in the grass. Clothes and the women's hairstyles have changed slightly, the man is still in a suit. Labeled: "Mother of Annie Leny" and "Leny".
4.A postcard of "Woodland Ave., Woodhaven, N.Y. It has an arrow pointing to the left side of the street and is labeled "On this side of the street, 326 was our number I believe".
5.A 5x8 photo of a house in the winter time, lots of snow in the picture. Its labeled "480 Jefferson Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan 4th, 1923. A wonderful home until ? The picket fence kept the children out of trouble".
6.A 5x8 picture of two women on a porch. 1 is sitting in a chair holding a white cat and the other is sitting at her side. The picture is labeled "Mother Eldredge" (In chair) and "Mrs. Charles Bloogood".
7.A 10x15 black and white photo of a large boat (a yacht?), tied up,with New York skyline in background (1920's ?). Back of photo is labeled "Frank H. Eldredge yacht".
8 . A family picture of 4 women, 3 men and 2 young boys, A summer picture taken in the front yard of a house. Label on the back says "Nana's family including sisters Harriet and Esther....F.H.E."
9.A photo of 4 women and 2 children. All are well dressed and dressed for cold. Label on back is " June 2nd. On the way to Coney Island. Esther, Alice, Grandmother DiBois, Aunt Harriet, Pender & Buddy". A stamp reads "The Fulsom Studio 602-4 Jefferson Ave., Toledo, Ohio"
10. A postcard sized picture glued to a cardboard mount. The picture is of the inside of a church. No label or markings of any kind.
11. A small pocket envelope 2x3 inches. Empty. Label on outside reads "Dec 4, 1937, Frank Herbert Eldredge".
12. Another small poket envelope, 2x3 inches, empty. Stamp on the outside reads "H. Mahler Photographic artist 645-647 EighthAvenue, bet 37th and 38th sta. New York".
13. A picture of a maybe 40 year old woman, standing on the shore of a lake. Labeled "Alice Eldredge".
14. A postcard sized picture glued to a cardboard mount. The picture is of the outside of a church (probably the same church as number 10. And like number 10, no label.
15. A 5x5 painting of a three masted ship under sail. Label on the back is "Buddy, age 4".
16. A picture of a man sitting on the lawn in a wooden chair. He has graying hair and is dressed in a white long sleeved shirt, tie and vest. A black dog ( A Lab ?) is sleeping at his feet. No label.
17. A duplicate photo of number one. Label on back reads "Joseph William Eldredge born Nov 23rd 1884, died June 5th 1900".
18. A photo by "Siegel Cooper co of New York" of a young woman. Label onback is "Mary Eldredge".
19. A picture of an empty field with a 1940's era car in the far distance. No label.
20. The man from number 16, sitting on the deck of a steamship. No label.
21. A photo of a front yard with a man bending over holding a collie dog. The man appears to be in his late 30's, a small child of 3 or 4 is standing next to him and also is holding on to the dog. The label reads "Buddy".
22. A picture of what appears to a vineyard, a large house and US Flag on the hill top in the background. No label.
23. An advertisement for the sale of the "Eldredge Farm, Clermont, New York" (9 photos of the main house, barn, other outbuildings, and lake. Ad partially states "This 155 acre farm, high in the hills of historical Clermont, New York, and only 2 1/2 hours from New York City via the Taconic Parkway, is now on the market due to the illness of the owner. The purchaser will acquire a SUPERIOR FARM in unspoiled Columbia County----truly one of the country's finest fruit producing properties."
24. A photo of two men standing on the sidewalk in front of their store.The storefront window says "Eldredge book and job printer". A street sign says " Job Printing Office" Hanging from this sign is one that states "Fireworks".
25. Two pictures of the coming attractions sign of the "Tivoli Theatre" "Fulton St and Myrtle Ave at Borough Hall". I suspect that the posters were printed by Eldredge job printers. No labels on either picture.
26. A picture that is the same as those in number 25, except this one is for the "Terminal Theatre".
27. A 3x5 picture of a man in a suit. Hair is parted down the middle and curled on his forehead. He has mutton chop and a mustache. Label on back reads "Gerorge Porter, Mother's sister's husband".
28. A picture of a man in a rowboat sized boat, in a suit and tie. There is an outboard motor on the back (What an antique !!), no label.
29. Three photos from maybe the 1960's. No label, big bulky window air conditioner visible in one photo. A man in his 70's in two of the photos, a seated woman in the third. No label.
30. A 8x10 photo of a very large printing press with 3 men in suits looking it over. No label, but there is a stamp that reads "Photo by Guth, 303 West 42 St.N.Y.C., 18".
31. A picture of a man standing in front of a tree. In a suit and bowtie, maybe from about 1910's ?. Label on back says "F.M. Eldredge grandfather".
32. A diamond shaped picture from "The Star Studio, 1473 Third Ave, N.Y." The woman in the photo is identified on the back as "Maude Agnes Eldredge".
33. An undated newspaper clipping. Headline says "Lane High Aero Club to Build and Fly a Glider". 11 children and a teacher are identified by name. One of the children is "B. Eldredge" (Buddy ??)One of the articles on the back side, identifies the year as 1930.
34. An advertisment for the "Elwin M. Eldredge Collection of Steamship Prints, Paintings and Exhibits""First exhibited in the North Wing of The Mariner's Museum, Newport News, Virginia on Nov 21 1941".
35. Another brochure for "The Eldredge Collection". Billed as "A Unique and Unsurpassed Collection of Steamboat Pictures".
36. A 5x6 card that reads" Mr. F. M. Eldredge annouces the opening of the Williamsburgh Market 326-328-330 Grand Street 217 South First Street near Havemeyer St. on Thursday, August Third Nineteen Eleven from 5 to 10 P.M. You are cordially invited to participate".
37. A brochure reprinted from "The June 1926 Business Magazine". The brochure is about the Science of Sign Posters and the Eldredges Company's aid to the business.
38. A photo of a dirt road in an empty field. No label.
39. A newpaper clipping from New York Herald Tribune concerning "Eldredge's Ship Print Collection. Undated but there is a schedule for television programs. Two channels, W2XAB 270K on the air from 8AM til 1045 PM and station W2XCR 2035K on the air from 3PM til 7PM (Sound available on radio station WGBS)..
40. Two plastic playing card sized calendars. Calender on one side, Eldredge advertising on the other. One is for 1925 and the 2nd one is for 1932.
41. 3x5 card annoucing the moving to a new location of the F.M. Eldredge Ptg Co. Undated.
42. A check printed by the F.M. Eldredge CO. Dated 189___.
43. A 5x6 order blank for the F. M. Eldredge Printing Co.
44. A 8x15 label for a crate of Eldredge Farms Apples of Clermont N.Y."Famous Hudson River Valley Fruit".
45. A "Memorandum of Agreement" dated August 10, 1904 between Harry Morton, Frank M. Eldredge and John C. Hopla. It is a two page type written carbon copy.
46. A “Tintype” photo of a young man in a suit and tie. No label.
47. A “Tintype” photoof a couple sitting on a bench. No label.
48. A “Tintype” photo of a really old woman. Picture is in a brass or copper frame. No label.
