I am not of this particular Ellender family but have been working on this family's tree for awhile as I am of the opinion that they are related to the Ellender family of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Living in Louisiana, I am able to find some research that may not be accessible to those outside of the state. The Ellender family I am looking for is Joseph Elinger/Ellender of Pennsylvania who married Sarah Compton, the d/o Joseph and Anna Van Deusen of New York. Sarah married Joseph in Warren County, Ohio in 1811. Her second husband was William Whitney. At some point after the 1850's one branch of Sarah and William's family moved towards New Iberia, Louisiana. Family names that were handed down were William, Washington, Sarah, Louise, George. My reasons for believing the Terrebonne Ellenders and Hackberry Ellenders are related have a lot to do with the names of people who witnessed various documents and were godparents to different people. So far, no definitive proof, but I believe it's too close to call, as they say. Anyone interested may e-mail me at the above address. Patty Whitney Gravois.
