there were Elletts who had significant positions in the federal navy of the civil war.They were Charles Ellett and his son Charles Rivers Ellett and possibly John Ellett.There were articles written about their service in Harper's magazine during the civil war.Charles Ellett was a civil engineer from Pensylvania.He was instrumental in establishing the dams on the Ohio River.He designed Ram Boats for the Federal Navy during the civil war.He commanded some of the boats.Hope this is helpful.
