I'm researching Christohper Ellis who was born in Connecticut about 1770 according to the 1850 Cumberland Co KY census. He must have been a well to do citizen as he had many slaves listed in the 1850 census. He was also listed in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census of Cumberland Co KY. An early land survey for the area for Christopher was originally in Green Co Ky > Cumberland Co Ky > Clinton Co KY:
776 We do hereby certify that Christopher Ellis is entitled to 200 acres of second rate land by virtue of his having improved the same agreeable to an act of the assembly entitled “An Act for Encouraging and Granting Relief to Settlers” and located as follows; In Green County and on the Sulphur Lick Creek of Obey’s River. Beginning at two beech trees, the north east side of said creek, running thence north easterly 179 poles, thence from the beginning north westwardly , thence at right angles for quantity. The improvement is near the north corner. Entered September 4, 1798.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone researching Christopher or his family.
