Ernest Ellis, Harvard, Ill., 1906 reckless driver
From St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, 21 Sept. 1906:
Leg is Broken in Auto Accident
It seems to have come to the point that people who travel by other means than automobile must get off the earth. The accident Tuesday in which James Macomber, a stockman of Tripoli, Iowa, was injured and a runaway caused, was an uncalled for disturbance that could have easily been averted if the driver of the machine had paid the least regard to the safety of his passengers o other vehicles on the road.
Passing George Kellar on horseback who had halted and was talking to a neighbor, an automobile driven by Ernest Ellis of Harvard and carrying his father Jerome Ellis and Dr. Marstiler ofGeneva, came up so quietly and swiftly as to cause Kellar's horse to plunge almost in front of the machine, and nearly upsetting Macomber driving the calf wagon, cause his horse to run and there him out breaking his ankle.
In place of showing a little humanity by stopping to assist in righting the havoc they had wrought they put on all possible speed and tried to get away. Kellar overtook them and got the number.
Macomber was sent home that night in care of a neighbor who was taking a train at Geneva.
A suit for damages will be instituted. No blame was attached to anyone in the auto except the driver.

I am not researching this person or family and have n o further information, just a crumbling old newspaper.
