Visited Euseby Elms' great niece in Co.Wexford, Ireland
Euseby Elms is my great grandfather. I visited Euseby Elms' great niece, Peggy, in County Wexford, Ireland during July of 2007. After being contacted by Peggy's daughter and confirming some information, I realized that one brick in my Elms brick wall had been broken. This led to many messages crossing the Atlantic.
Once I had seen a baptismal certificate , I had his parents' names - Thomas Elms and Alicia Eagers. Now I still have a brick wall, just not as big as it was. Who were Thomas and Alicia's parents?
The 1900 U.S. Census states Euseby's father was born in Ireland and his mother on Isle of Wight (an island between Ireland and England.) I've been told that the Elms men were sailors. Did Thomas meet Alicia on the Isle of Wight? One can only speculate.
Euseby was a cabin boy on a ship as a young teenager and jumped ship in 1868 in Galveston, Texas. He never returned to Ireland but two of his daughters did visit. Peggy had this to say about Euseby, "He left so young, he did."
Euseby lived many years in Corsicana, Texas, and spent his last years in Dallas, Texas.
Can anyone tell me more about this family?
