Yes his name is found in known records with many veriations ,but one thing is almost certain is that his name was Johan(n) [German form of John] Dieterich [short versions of this name seem to be D(i)eter & Teter] ELROOT [various spellings include EL(L)ROD(T) & it is known that the "d" translates into "th" depending on the language thus the spelling EL(L)ROTH ,you dont believe me then consider the Norse Thor(English spelling) who in German is Donner and the Norse Odin(English spelling) who in Scandinavian is Othin and many other examples exist]
