Josiah also married 1884 Lumpkin Co., GA Nancy Weaver b. 1826 SC d. 1884-1899 (widow of William B. Vandergriff). After Nancy died, Josiah married 1899 Gilmer Co., GA Mary Bolen b. 1847 d. 1908 (widow of Joseph A. Johnson). Josiah and Mary Elrod both died in Gilmer Co., GA.

In 1906, while a resident Quill, Gilmer Co., GA, Joseph Elrod applies for an Indigent Pension for his Civil War record in Co., H, 1st GA Regt. Vols.
The following are my notes from this Josiah/Joseph Elrod's Application for Confederate Veteran's Pension, state of Georgia, from the Confederate Pension Applications, 1879-1960, Archive Collection Name: Pension Applications of Confederate Soldiers and Widows Archive Collection: # GCP-214, Number of Images in Packet: 8.
Josiah/Joseph Elrod, a resident of Quill, Gilmer Co., GA who had resided there from 1901-1906, was born 1824 in South Carolina, had been a citizen of Georgia for 61 years since 2/9/1845, served in the Civil War in Co. H 1st GA Regt. Volunteers, enlisted 5/1861, served 12 months then reenlisted for another 12 months and served out term, "___ Union paroled, & remained at home remainder of war, being over age" and he stated "I have kidney & liver troubles, muscular rheumatism, gravel and general disability" and that his wife is badly afflicted with heart disease. It is dated 9/11/1906.
