I am sorry to hear about Miriam's passing. I have not been on this board in quite some time. I thought I would post the Bible record that I have. I received it from Edwin Smith(deceased) of Decatur County, Ga. some time back. It is the Smith Family Bible. It is a one page script reprinted here verbatim: Births & Deaths Rebecca Emanuel Was Born Nov 27th 1786 Otis Smith Was Born March 7th 1812 Rebecca Smith Was Born June 15th 1821 David Emanuel Was Born Nov 23rd 1838 William Emanuel Was Born Sept 6th 1840 Died Jan 1st 1863 H.M. Emanuel Was Born March 5th 1843 Samuel A. Smith Was Born July 10th 1847 Mary A. Smith Was Born Feb 23rd 1852 Charles Smith Was Born April 5th 1854 Amanda Smith Was Born May 2nd 1856 And Died Sept 21st 1863 Thomas D. Smith Was Born July 16th 1859 William S. Smith Was Born Sept 27th 1865 This Rebecca Smith must be the mother of Hilliard J. Emanuel, who first married Rebecca Alligood in 1838 in Tallahassee. They moved to Decatur County where Hilliard's father David had land. The 1832 Decatur County Tax Digest lists David as agent for Hilliard. The land listed was 250 acres of pine Section 21 Lot 440. A portion of this land is still in my family. Therefore David's wife must be the Rebecca listed above. If anyone has any other thoughts, I am very open to them. This is my best guess. Hilliard J. Emanuel was killed by indians, according to family history. The location is unknown, as is his grave. Rebecca Alligood Emanuel then married Otis Smith. She lived with her son until her death in 1904. Mr. Edwin Smith was a small child when she died, and she lived with his family. He related the story to me.
