Looking in Virginia has not proven very fruitful in my search, so I'm looking closely at South Carolina as a connection for my Emerson et al, family. There is a William Embracure in Chester County, SC in 1790, and a William Emberson in Kershaw County, SC in 1800.
In the 1790 census, I think "Embracure" is a transcription error.I haven't been able to find any reference to Embracure as a viable surname, so I'm thinking it may have been Emberson.
In the 1800 census, a couple of John Robinsons are found, which would connect William Emberson to my George Emberson in this way:
1. My first documented ancester is George Emberson (born VA) married to Esther Robinson (born SC).
2. We believe that Esther Robinson's father was named John Robinson.
3.George and Esther's eldest son is named William, and the next eldest is named John, which would seem to follow Scots-Irish naming patterns.
This is all pretty thin, but I have to start somewhere!
