NewYork Times Death Notice 9January09
MORGAN--Temple Emmet, (Brother Dominic Maria, OCSO), died on December 2, 2008, in Caldey Abbey, on Caldey Island off the coast of Wales. A Mass for the repose of his soul will be said on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10am, in the Church of Saint Vincent De Paul, 123 West 23rd Street, New York, New York. Temple Emmet Morgan was born on May 10, 1922 in New York City. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Denison Morgan. Descending from a prominent American family with illustrious ancestors, he was proudest of his descent from Thomas Addis Emmet, brother of the great Irish patriot Robert Emmet, who was hanged by the British in 1803. Following his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he returned to Harvard College. He was on the varsity crew and a member of the Porcellian Club. Two months before Commencement, on April 5, 1947, he was received into the Catholic Church by Fr. Leonard Feeney. From that moment he turned his back on his former life. Until 1988 he was active as a monk at Saint Benedict Center in Harvard, Massachusetts. At that time he left, seeking a stricter form of monastic life. In 1990 he entered Caldey Abbey, a monastery of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance, where he made his solemn profession on December 8, 1995. During his remaining years in Wales he touched the lives of many people. After a life of joy, he died in peace, having received his daily Holy Communion, surrounded by his brothers of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance.
