Hi Cheryl

Good of you to reply to my Manhattan Emslie enquiry. At the moment I can't say if there's a link between our families but since my great grandfather, John Emslie, was born (I think) in Edinburgh about the 1840's and William and Margaret seem to have been in Edinburgh when Jane was born there's always a chance that there is some relationship. John's father was Alexander Emslie but I have no details about him other than he died before his wife Christian or Christina MacDonald
(abt 1818 - 1862). I'll keep your Emslies in mind and let you know if I find anything of interest. (Since William is a family name with you, you might like to know that I'm known as Martin Emslie but I'm William Martin Emslie - to differentiate me from my uncle and grandfather who were also William Emslies).
regards
Martin
