I believe that James Christie Emslie was my great grandfather (I know for certain that Gordon Campbell Emslie was my grandfather; his father was given as "Robert" on the marriage cert, but there aren't a lot of GC Emslies about...). The "Ernslie" is of course a transcription error.
What I have is that JC was born in Brechin in 1848 or 49 (I haven't found a record). He was in Brechin in 1851 and 1861, a lodger in St. Pancras in 1871, married Emily Annie Morrison on 6 Aug 1874, was in Hornsey 1881, don't know about 1891 but his wife and most family (son Robert was at Morrison Academy in Crieff) were in Brechin; 28 Dec 1891 he arrived in New York with wife and two daughters, 7 april 1893 he got back to Liverpool on Lusitania (described as Brazilian Merchant's manager). 1901 he was in Isleworth, Secretary to Limited Co. Drug Stores I think the census says. And yes, it seems he died in 1903.
Parents were Robert Emslie of Laurencekirk and Ann Christie of Moray, who may have been the daughter of Henry Christie and Ann Forsyth but that is just my best conjecture.
I would be pleased to exchange any further information.
