Endsley family - 1800s, Indiana, Iowa

I am so confused about my husband's Endsley/Ensley line that I'm not sure I can even explain my dilemma.

I'm trying to verify the ancestry of his grandfather, John Henry Ginn, who was b 1882, Conway IA. John's death certificate lists his parents as Oliver Perry Ginn (who lived in Taylor County IA) and Rebecca Ensley (who, according to the 1880 census, lived with her parents William H. & Elizabeth E. Ensley in Taylor Co IA). William H. lists his place of birth as IN and his parents as being born in SC, which agrees with the information I have that he was born in IN and that his parents - Abraham Ensley and Rachel Prater - were both born in SC. I have this William Ensley married to Elizabeth Shippen.

Sounds very straight-forward but...a 1922 newspaper clipping (which someone in the family thought important enough to save) thanks people for their condolences at the death of Forest V. Smith in Boone IA. The thank-you was signed by John H. Ginn. (I believe John H. Ginn signed it as stepson but can't find it so can't verify it.) Forest V. Smith was married to Ella Ensley, who, according to her death certificate, was born in IN Sept. 1961 and died a few months before Forest. According to the 1880 census, William & Lizzie Ensley, who lived in Shelbyville IN, had a daughter named Ella who was born ca 1861. Ella's death certificate listed her parents as - you guessed it - William Ensley and Elizabeth Shippen. This William was born in IN but says his parents were both born in NY, while this Lizzie's parents were born on TN. None of this fits the information I had for William Ensley and Elizabeth Shippen.

I haven't been able to find a birth certificat for Rebecca Ensley Ginn because I don't have a death date.

Years ago I solved the dilemma by jumping to the conclusion that Rebecca was actually Ella Rebecca. Unfortunately, I passed that information on and it has since spread. Many, many apologies.

So - who were Rebecca Ensley's parents, and why doesn't the 1880 census information for Ella's parents agree with what we know about William Ensley and Elizabeth Shippen? How many William Ensley's can have married an Elizabeth Shippen? Argh and sigh.

Can anyone shed any kind of light on this?????????
