Bengleman could they be the same?

I am searching my Bengleman line and wonder if they might have been the same. My Benglemans came over from Germany and settled in the Lancaster New York area. It is located in Erie County NY. In the 1870 census it was spelled as Bengleman, then it was spelled Benkelman. Just wondered if the B might have been dropped at some point.
