Catherine, I have been researching the Bryan family for a friend of mine. Based on the information we have to date, the father of his (confirmed) ancestors, James E(noch/s) Bryan and William t. Bryan/t was Alfred Bryan/t. Both William and James were born in Surry Co., NC in 1826/27. These sons were found in Hawkins Co., TN census records in 1840. William was killed during the Civil War and James and family moved to KY along with Nancy Bryan. We are not sure if she was their mother or another relative. We believe the father of these children was Alfred Bryan/t. We have found a marriage of Alfred Bryan to a Nancy Hickman. It is our suspicion that Alfred may have been the son (or grandson) of Samuel Bryan (son of Joseph) and Elizabeth Enochs sister of Rebecca.

I am particularly interested in finding the will of John Enochs(on) m. to Margaret Vaneman(sp?), in the hopes that chldren of Elizabeth's may have been named in the will or perhaps land my have been granted to her.

Records I have found to date indicate there is a connection to Davidson Co., TN in the Bryan line, which was carved out of Washington Co., TN as was Hawkins Co. Your data reflects the Davidson Co. connection as well.

We believe Alfred was born 1784 and I note you descend from Alfred Enochs. Interesting, but certainly no where near conclusive.

Also, I have found a marriage record of Elizabeth Bryant to Edward Walker in Hawkins Co on 9 Oct 1941.

If you have any information that might help either connect or at least shed some light on this one way or another, my friend, Joe and I would certainly appreciate it.

We been researching this jointly for several months and recently this seems to be going in (possibly) the right direction.

Diana McGinness
