Thanks, Wilson, for suggesting persons named Mary Ann Enochs. Both of these, however, were born too late to be the one I am looking for. I know that my Mary Ann Enochs was born in 1782 in Virginia. Her father's name was John Enochs and, according to usually reliable family notes, her Mother's name was Katie. Her mother married a second time about 1792, so her husband John Enochs may have passed away by that time. In 1788 Mary Ann's brother (Maj.) Joseph Enochs was born in southwest PA. On a census of 1790 for the township where they lived in PA, a "Catharine Enoch" is found living with one other female; and next on the list is a John Enoch, Sr. living with two "males under 16 years" and two females.
John Enoch, Sr. may be Mary Ann's grandfather. Otherwis he could be her father separated from her mother. Some information I found on the Web mentions a John Enochs born 1733 whose parents were Henry Enochs and Elizabeth Ross. Of the John Enochs mentioned on that Web page, it seems to me that this John Enochs (b. 1733) is the best candidate to be the John Enochs, Sr. who appears on the 1790 census in southwest PA. But that's simply a surmise at this point.
