Among my Grandmother’s things, I found an article titled “Fond Recollections: Portuguese Settler Was a Hardy Soul – And He Had To Be. The article was about the life of Joe Zefrino Silva. He emigrated from the Azores and traveled to America in the 1850s. The article’s focus is on the crossing to America eventually landing in New Brunswick, Connecticut. He married Catherine Enos. Mr. Silva and his family ended up in San Francisco, Ca. The article was written by a granddaughter, Kay DeGruchy. I suspect that this article was the property of my step grandfather, Andrew Sousa Rodrigues.

I will try to get this article typed up so that I can post it here on this message board. If there are any folks who would like a copy of this article sent to them, and a scanned picture of Joe Zefrino Silva and his wife, Catherine Enos, please email me.
