Announcing the "Enox Surname DNA Project"
Please consider joining this group in search of our Enox ancestors heritage!
The Enox Surname DNA Project was started on 28 Sep 2007 in order to find out where in Europe the Enox line originated. This means testing all individuals with the name of Enox - which includes the spelling variations of - Enecks, Enicks, Enix, Ennix, Enoch, Enochs, Enock, Enocks and Enux - or any other variation.
I have just ordered my uncle's test kit.He will be the first Enox to test.I am hoping that many other individuals out there will be curious to see if all these spelling variations are from one original lineage or if there are indeed many different lineages. The way we will be able to determine this is by DNA testing.
A "Surname Project" traces members of a family that share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test as a stand-in for them.
The advantages to setting this project up at Family Tree DNA is that as a group project the prices are reduced. The regular prices can be seen at their web site of http://www.familytreedna.com/products.htmlhttp://www.familytreedna.com/products.html You can compare that price to what it would cost by joining the Enox Surname DNA Project. These prices are set by Family Tree DNA.
The surname group project pricing is:
12 marker Y-DNA* test $99 + postage
12 to 25 Marker Upgrade $49
12 to 37 Marker Upgrade $99
12 to 67 Marker Upgrade $189
25 Marker Y-DNA* test $148 + postage
25 to 37 Marker Upgrade $49
25 to 67 Marker Upgrade $148
37 Marker Y-DNA* test $189 + postage
37 to 67 Marker Upgrade $99
67 Marker Y-DNA* test $269 + postage
I actually ordered my father's test one step at a time.First his 12 markers, then the 37 markers, then on to the 67 markers. It was easier for me than the larger cost up front for the complete 67 marker test.Although it does turn out cheaper in the long run if you just have the full 67 markers ordered.I have found that the first 12 markers will not be enough to tell the differences between lineages, it almost always takes at least the 37 markers. But, that is up to the individual.
All information is confidential.Only a kit number is used for identification and you do not have to post your results online if you do not wish to.
