A Progressive Establishment ~ G. W. Ensley
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, June 25, 1908
Years ago when G.W. ENSLEY was quite a young man he came to Chariton and
established a "tin shop" and hardware business, staying with it until today
he has one of the leading establishments in this section of the state. He
didn't get romantic and want to migrate to some far away clime where money
grew on trees and the rivers flowed with delight without individual effort,
but he was content to work and wait for substantial results -- and they came
But during all these years "effort" does not merely embrace the
accumulation of merchandise but also the ability to turn it to advantage of
both dealer and purchaser. This came through the thorough acquaintance of
quality and fairness in commercial relations. G.W. ENSLEY has always made
good with his customers and now occupies a substantial modern building of
his own, on the west side, the ware rooms and several floors being filled
with up-to-date merchandise in his lines.
He meets all competition in his tinning, plumbing and heating departments
and no building is too large or work complicated to do other than guarantee
satisfaction on his contracts and often comes into successful competition
with Des Moines firms and other cities.
Shelf hardware, cutlery, builders hardware etc. are specialties and he is
always ready to make estimates and submit figures. At present he has one of
the biggest supplies of barbed and woven fence wire which ever came to
Chariton and farmers would do well to figure with him. It is piled high --
everything but the price and that is as low as reliable goods can be sold.
Stoves of all kinds, gas ranges -- everything in the line of kitchen
necessities may be found here. This is headquarters. Bath tubs -- in fact
here is the place for goods of that description.
He handles tools of all kinds -- for the tillers of the soil, harvesters of
the crops, delvers in the earth and for builders of houses, but no flying
machines or things of that sort.
Just sensible and dependable things of utility without foolishness or frills
Here you can get anything from a joint of stove pipe to the fittings for a
brick house. Refrigerators or furnaces, pumps or tin roofs -- all things
regular or any contrast you may desire.
