I am trying to find out about Anthony Ensminger/Entsminger who married, probably in Monroe Co., [W]Virginia, between 1800 and 1810. I have various Champaign Co., OH, records that show an Anthony Ensminger married to Rosanna Mannix, widow of Luke West of Greenbrier/Monroe Co., [W]Virginia. Rosanna was probably born about 1775. Luke West was on Greenbrier Co. records in 1796. Anthony Ensminger and Luke's widow, Rosanna, were married and in Champaign Co., OH, by 12 Jul 1809 for a court case involving various Mannix relatives. There was a close relationship between the Mannix and Ensminger families in Monroe Co. because, on 19 Apr 1805, JAMES MANNIX, brother of Rosanna, witnessed the will of PHILLIP ENSMINGER, Monroe Co. VA. The will named heirs: Wife Catty Ensminger, children: Susanah Miller, Catty Platts, Elizabeth Hunter, Mary Magdalene Vance, Andrew Ensminger, Joshua Ensminger, Kenny(?)Ensminger, Elijah Ensminger, Anthony Ensminger, Phillip Ensminger, Jonathan Ensminger. Exec: son Phillip and John Spar, Sr. Will prob. April 1807. (I believe this was the will of Johann Phillip ENSMINGER who died in Monroe Co., 1807.) However, I also have an Anthony Ensminger married to Catherine Dubois/Deboy 4 Dec 1805, Monroe Co., [W]Virginia. This couple had lots of children and were in Ross Co., Ohio, by 1825. This can't be the same Anthony who married Rosanna, but who was he? To make matters worse, from the Monroe Co. WV Marriage Index, I also have the following Deboy marriage: CHRISTY James to DEBOY Catherine Feb 3, 1806. (James Christy was on the 1810 and 1820 census in Monroe Co.) As far as I can tell, the only Catherine Deboy of the right age to have married 1802/1805 in Monroe Co. was the daughter of John Deboy. And the only Anthony Ensminger of the right age was the son of Johann Phillip Ensminger whose will was witnessed by James Mannix. I am descended from Conrad Deboy, brother of Catherine, and Mary Mannix, sister of Rosanna, so the conflicting information is causing me problems with both the Deboy and the Mannix lines. Does anyone have a straight story? Janice McAlpine Notify Administrator about this message?
