Dear Richard,
Thank you for the information which you provided me. I would be most interested in any and all additional information you might have. I have been to Niederbronn twice and have seen the cemetery where many of our relatives are buried. On my last trip there, I found that a street had been named in honor of Elizabeth Eppinger. On my first trip there I located her grave with the help of two of the sisters from her order. I also found the residence of Rev. Georges Eppinger, a recently retired priest, but I missed him for he had gone on vacation that very day. I did visit with his niece Alice who lived in a house across the courtyhard from him. She took us to the cemetery that day.
I had very little to go on on my first trip and had not unearthed much more when I went the sedon time. . My source of information was a history ofmy great great uncle Franz Ignatz or Francois Ignace Klein (name on his French passport which I have recently been given by a cousin), a missionary priest to Indiana.. He invited my greatgrandfather, his brother, JosephI. Klein to come up from New Orleans to teach in a school he wanted to build. This great great uncle built several churches in Indiana. This information came from the archdiocesan archives in Indianapolis, Indiana. My grandfather Martin Klein was the youngest of the children of Joseph Klein who married Barbara Dirshel. My grandfather's siblings were named Joseph I,JohnG. , Franz Xavier, Magdalena, Mary Barbara,Anna Brigitta.
I have only been able to dabble sporadically into the history of the family since I have a very time consuming job. I would be host glad to share anything I have with you. You may have the very little information I have.
Do you know if any of the Eppingers had a business in New Orleans? My great grandfather worked there for two years when he first came to the US before going to Indiana.
Well, this is very exciting to me. I look forward to further correspondence. I had never used this site befofe Saturday. All the best, Mary Ann Klein
