Yes, you are right: if you would pronounce Brunswick in an english way, it sounds like Braunschweig. And Braunschweig is a rather big town in the north of Germany, between Hannover and Berlin. It belongs to Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), which is the correct "Bundesland", something like a County.
