Ernst Family Genealogy Forum
Johann Friedrich Ernst arrived in Philadelphia in 1765. He served as a Lutheran pastor in PA, NJ, and NY. His first wife died of consumption; his second wife, ELIZABETH JAEGER, was the daughter of a noted Oley, PA iron master.
JULIA PHILIPINA ERNST, a daughter from his first marriage, became the wife of JOHN ADAM TREHER. His eldest son, JOHN FREDERICK ERNST, JR. settled in Coopertown, NY in 1801 and manufactured silverware. Another son, WILLIAM GOTTHOLD ERNST, studied at Princeton and became a Lutheran pastor in the Lancaster/Lebanon, PA area. The third son, JOHN CHRISTOPHER ERNST, was mentioned in his father's will. There were also daughters ELIZABETH MARGARET, CHRISTINA, and MARGARET JUNTA ERNST. Little is known about them.
I am seeking any portraits or other information about this Ernst family for an elderly researcher, who has spent over 15 years in studying Ernst's ministry and who is currently preparing his biography. She has translated Ernst's personal diary (housed at the Historical Society of PA) from miniscule German script. Once completed, this volume will be of interest to many Ernst researchers. Any assistance will be properly credited.
