The town of Escamilla is located in the SE end of the region called Guadalajara -- E, NE of Madrid in Spain. There are 2 roads in/out of the town - one skirts the mountains, not a fully paved road on the N, NW side of town. The other on the S, SE side of town goes down to the main road between Madrid and Cuenca. Aside from seeing all of about 3 elderly folks, a few dogs and chickens, on a weekday afternoon -- the town appeared dead, or at least very empty.....of course, it was siesta time too. The church was locked up and practically everything looked closed up. It was very disappointing -- but at least I could say "I've been there". Couldn't even find a place to eat --- and we were starving. Took us another hour or so to reach Cuenca to eat. Still, I'm glad I went.
