Name-- Mathilda (nee Menn) Esch
Born--Born August 1, 1837
Place Born--St. Charles,Missouri
Moved--Nine years later to Dane County
Among first settlers of Sauk City. She converted to the Evangelical Church at 14 and always active in the Lord's work.
Marriage-- 1853 to Henry Esch a minister of
Evangelical church in Dane County
Retirement--After Henry'health failed they retired
to Sparta,WI
Date of Death--Thursday January 25,1917 in Kenosha,WI
Preceded in death-- By husband Henry Esch and 5 children
Survivors-Four surviving children: Congressman John J. Esch of La Crosse, William Esch of Lodi,WI, George E.Esch of Washington,D.C. and sister, Ella (nee Esch) Favelle is now the wife of the Congregational minister of Kenosha,WI. Also 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral--Funeral meeting was held at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Zion Church Saturday.Mentions beautiful flowers, singing and family, friends and the church. Her remains had been brought to Sparta and interred in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery, January 27,1917 on Saturday.
