My Greatgrandfather Diebold Eschenbrenner was born Feb 22,1837 in the Alsace/Lorraine area and came to the USA about 1850 and settled in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Although we think he came to the USA to get away from the Fraaco-Prussian Wars, surprising he fought in an all German Infantry Unit, the Ohio 9th, for 3 years in the Civil War.

He worked as a farmer. In later life when he needed proof of age, he signed an affadavit that his birth records were destroyed at the Battle of Woerth.

A few years ago I went to Woerth and could not find any information.
