Richard Earl Esmay 1915 Illinois/Montana Ismay

Richard Earl Esmay was my mothers father, she never got the chance to meet him or know much about his side of the family. He was Born 2/16/1915 and died 2/26/1965. I believe his fathers name was Paul Esmay and his mothers name was Pearl. My mother had spoken to her grandmother once as a child and she told her that the Esmays had started the first trading post in Montana and that there original surname was Ismay. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
