Hallo I just saw your message. It is a bit old so I don't know if you have got any answer to your problem. I don't know anything about your husband's family, but I am rather familiar with the area he came from. Kolga is situated in the county Harjumaa, the north coast of Estonia at the Finnish Bay. You can see information about Kolga at www.mois.ee/harju/kolga.shtml Kolga belongs to Kuusalu parish or Loksa parish. It depends on which church that was nearest to where you lived. Contact your Mormon Genealogy Center and order microfilms for both parishes. Order the "Personaalraamat". It is a kind of census, so you will get all the persons of the household at that time. I think the filmlists says up to 1914, but the clergyman usually has filled in persons to about 1930. Another thing you must be aware of is that in the 1930's many Estonians changed their lastnames. At www.history.ee/ono/ you can find out their old name. You click "otsingud" and then write the name on the upper white box. Here is the result for Niit: Number Vana nimi(old name) Uus nimi(new name) Koht Muutmise aeg 1 Meemann Niit Haanja 1935-07-16 2 Niitenberg Niit Kolga 1936-11-06 3 Velt Niit Mustjala 1939-03-03 4 Niitenberg Niit Pärsti 1937-11-12 5 Niitberg Niit Pärsti 1937-11-12 6 Pull Niit Saatserinna 1939-01-03 7 Kundrats Niit Pihtla 1935-04-30 The one you are interested in is probably the second. For Loo there is 97 entries,so you have to look for yourself. I hope you will enjoy doing a little reseach. I have gone through all these churchbooks and found my ancestors back to about 1800. Good Luck and feel free to ask again. Helene Notify Administrator about this message?
