Hi Morris, Nobody has answered you yet? The two dots above the vowels a, o and u in German and Estonian are called an umlaut. They change the sound of the vowel. You probably are interested in the ä in Ilupmägi--the umlaut here changes the a sound to one the like a in apple (instead of a short a, like the one in ma or pa). Google the Web for <define umlaut> to find out more. BTW, mägi means hill or mountain in the Estonian language. There seems to be no such word as ilup, but it might be an abbreviation of ilupuu or beautiful tree. Best wishes, Ann Notify Administrator about this message?
