Since 1721, Hiiumaa has been part of Estonia, Russian Empire. Between 1809-1918 Finland also was part of the Russian Empire.

Be advised that the Russian Empire was on the Julian calendar until the October/November Revolution 1918. For most of the 19th century that difference was 12 days, ie, a June 20th entry in a parish record would be translated to July 2 in western Europe or the US.

You can search the FH library catalog at
http://www.familysearch.org/
so you will have your film numbers in hand when you arrive at the library.

Regards,
Arvo
