Two prominent Evans families living in northeast Kershaw County were George and Josiah Evans, probably brothers, who were both born about 1730. I suspect they had a brother John who lived a few miles east in Chesterfield County.

I have some genealogy on Josiah, but none on George or John. But, there are lots of land records on these folks in the SC Archives (on-line).

There are no possible candidates among Josiah's children, as I have records most of them moved to Wayne County.

George Evans had a number of children, but I haven't proven any of them. James Evans, Revolutionary War soldier who moved to Washington County, GA with my John Watts is a strong candidate. Tabitha Evans, second wife of John Watts is a candidate. A George Evans who traveled to MS Territory with my Josiah Watts (John's son) in 1807 is another candidate. This was the first of many trips for my Josiah Watts.

Josiah Evans' other three sons, John ("Capt. Jack"),Josiah and George all moved to Wayne County abt. 1810 although their families didn't arrive until 1812. Daughter Margaret married James Rochelle.

My Josiah Watts married Margaret "Peggy" Evans in SC in 1805. I don't know Margaret's parents, either.

Josiah Watts, his half brother John Evans Watts, Josiah Evans (yes another one - probably Peggy's brother) all moved together to Wayne County, living not far from the Evans brothers above. These three fought together in the same company in the War of 1812. Two of the Evans brothers fought in a different company.

As you can tell, I'm lost in Evans in SC. Who is Peggy's parents? Who is Tabitha's lineage? Who is James Evans?

Email me for more details.
