Dear Carole,
Sorry for the late response...I don't have access to this forum that often any more.
No, Capt. Zadock did not live in Peru. He stayed in Addison, where he regularly shows up in census and is buried. His brother Lieut. Benjamin Everest (1752-1843), my ancestor (father of David D. Everest, 1799-1863, of Addison and Milton VT and Port Kent and Keeseville NY), also stayed at Addison, and is buried, also with his family, in the same section of the same cemetery (Lake View). Images of the Everest brothers' gravestones, and images and/or records for many of their family members buried at Lake View, may be seen free on www.findagrave.com.
Capt. Zadock and Lieut. Benjamin's younger brother, Cpl. Joseph Everest (1754-1825) did move to New York state, first to Ticonderoga as I recall around the turn of the 19th century, then soon thereafter to Peru, where he stayed. In 1983, piloting my parents' rental car around Lake Champlain, we visited the Peru Cemetery where we saw the graves of Joseph and his family, and were eaten ALIVE by the hordes of very large, very eager mosquitoes for which this area is so well known. They make themselves evident at any time of day, but are especially enthusiastic around late afternoon and sunset, when we finally found the cemetery. I'd have to check Findagrave for their images (Joseph and the Peru Everests, not the skeeters).
