Richard Everest actually stated a Brass Band when he arrived with his family in Oregon in 1846.
He had made a fair amount of money in the Gold Rush in California and sent money to his sister Maria and her husband Samuel Parrott to bring their family to America. Samuel, Maria and their children (minus Thomas Parrott) came over on the "Josephine" and arrived in Oregon on Feb 13, 1853. They purchased land on Wild Horse Mountain -now owned by the Parrett family and called Parrett mountain. NOTE: half the family spells their name with "ett" the other "ott".
In 1856 Thomas Parrett with his cousin John Everest (son of Maria and Richard Everest's brother John) came to Oregon.
Thomas Parrett and his cousin John Everest and some of their children were taught by Richard Everest and made a living in the music field.
