Claus Hartwig Evers b. 1817 in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, d. 1900 in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX. He married Johanna Katherina Bocken. Claus and Johanna immigrated to America with their two children, Christian and Christina Maria Magdalena, were also born near the city of Kiel in Holstein, Germany (Denmark). On August 3, 1855, they left the port of Hamburg on the sail ship GUTENBERG.

It is believed the Evers lived for several years in Piedras Negras, Mexico, and later in St. Louis, Missouri, during the Civil War years.
