Henry Evers, age 75 of Wood Lake, died Monday, May 8, 2006 after a long battle with lung disease in Avera Medical Center in Marshall. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A. M. Thursday, May 11, 2006 in Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and continue Thursday one hour prior to services in Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. There will be a prayer service Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo. Arrangements are being handled by the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.
Henry Lawrence Evers was born February 2, 1931 to William and Ella (Koster) Evers in Nobles County near Fulda, Minnesota. He was baptized March 1, 1931 and confirmed on April 2, 1944 in Phingston Immanuel Lutheran Church near Fulda. Henry moved with his parents to rural Wood Lake in 1946 where he grew up and attended country school. On May 20, 1961 he was united in marriage to Irene Kuehn in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Belview. They lived near Wood Lake where Henry farmed from 1953 until 1993 when they moved into Wood Lake. In 1973 he began a career surveying for local drainage contractors which he did for 29 years. Henry then worked part time for four years at the Wood Lake Elevator until 2005 when he was forced to retire due to ill health. He enjoyed camping and going to the lake, fishing, playing cards, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Henry was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood.
Henry L. Evers died on Monday, May 8, 2006 after a lengthy battle with lung disease in Avera Medical Center in Marshall at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 6 days. He is survived by his wife Irene of Wood Lake, three children and six grandchildren; Donna Ricke and husband Robert of Wood Lake and their children Alissa and Brian, Audrey Knutson and fiancé Loren Borning of Granite Falls and her children Shane and Michelle and LaVern Evers and wife Tammy of Minneota and their children Megan and Nicole and two step grandchildren Tanya and Brandon. Also surviving are his sister Mildred Bruss and husband Darrel of Kensington, sisters-in-law; Mary Stelter of Marshall, Myrtle Raddatz of Morgan, Pearl Anderson and husband Andy of Redwood Falls and Diane Asche and husband Harlan of Willmar and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ervin Evers, and brothers-in-law; Orville Kuehn and Orville Raddatz.
