Sorry about the delay in replying, I changed my email address and I haven't check the message board for Ewens in a while.
Unfortuneatly not a lot of your info sounds familiar, but here is what I have.
My Great-Great-Grandfather William Murrell had two sons, George and William Murrell, who were born and raised on a dairy farm in Brighton, England. William Murrell passed away in 1890, leaving his wife Sophia and his two son behind. Within a few months his widowed wife married one of the farm hands, Harry Ewens. I even have a picture of him standing in front of the dairy with the boys and Sophia. http://www.genealogy.com/users/m/c/m/Ronald-Mcmillan/PHOTO/0005photo.html
My Grandfather recalls some story were Sophia and Harry had some children that may have gone by the name of Murrell instead of Ewens and later moved to Canada. I know from the 1891 census that Sophia and Harry did have at least on child together by the name of Ethelbert. I don't know if any of this sounds familiar, but please let me know if it does.
