James Lochlin Ewen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1844. He moved to Rocky Saugeen Grey County, Canada, and from there came to Muskegon, Michigan. He had 3 brothers, Robert, John and Tom, as well as one sister (name unknown). His sister went blind while white-washing a chicken coop.

James Ewen is buried in Oakwood Cemetary, Muskegon, MI, Plot 1-5-6. The following Ewens are buried nearby him:

James Ewen Jr., b. May 1879, Muskegon, Michigan, d. October 15, 1880, Muskegon, Michigan.
+Grace Anna Ewen, b. April 09, 1881, Muskegon, Michigan, d. December 14, 1942, Muskegon, Michigan.
Matthew Frank Ewen, b. September 29, 1883, Muskegon, Michigan, d. October 08, 1965, Michigan.
Thomas Ewen, b. August 09, 1885, Muskegon, Michigan, d. August 24, 1886, Muskegon, Michigan.
Lawrence Ewen, b. June 01, 1890, Muskegon, Michigan, d. October 10, 1921, Texas.
Lena(Mary Magdalene Steiner) Ewens Govan - Wife of James Lochlin Ewen born 1860 in Michigan, and died January 25, 1903 in Muskegon, Michigan.
