Hello, I also am decended from Major Richard Ewen and his daughter Elizabeth Ewen Talbott and Richard Talbott.
Having been in scotland a number of times, I do know that the name Ewen would have been originally McEwen...
I have been told one theory is that when coming to America
the Mc was dropped....
This is in my view a possibility but it has NOTHING to back it up with... I have searched many books of ship's from Scotland to the U.S. and have not found anything to verify any of it.
