My theory is that the pronounciation of the name "Oechsner" by a German sounds like "Exner" to English speaking people. My husbands Oechsner ancestors immigrated from Baden, Germany to New Orleans, Louisiana in the 1800's. They pronounced their name "Exner," but spelled it "Oechsner."
