I am doing historical research concerning the nineteenth-century A.W. Faber Factory on Atsena Otie Key (also known as Depot Key) off the gulf coast of Florida. The remains (the structures were heavily damaged or totally destroyed in a 1896 hurricane) are part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge.
I am particularly interested in records relating to this factory, photographs, or maps of the island. Transcripts of letters describing the area or the operation of the factory would also be very helpful. The factory made pencil blanks and pen holders that were shipped to northern factories for finishing.
I do not have any genealogical information on the Faber family; however, this topic may be of general interest to some of the family's descendents. I look forward to hearing from you!
