William Faber Luxembourg to Virgil, Kane Co., IL
Posted by: Nancy Cross (ID *****1654) Date: May 11, 2009 at 13:44:50

I have posted a request several times for information about my Great Grandfather William Faber B: 1844, Luxembourg; D:1916, Virgil, Kane County, Illinois. I would like to report that a fellow researcher whom I met through the Luxembourg Cultural Society in Wisconsin found him in the 1870 US Census. This has opened the door to finding several other persons in my branch of the Faber family tree!

The secret to success in this case was looking for alternative spellings of the name Faber. Many times the census taker spelled the name as they heard it or in this case when the information was transcribed the transcriber read the census taker's notes as FALEN. The lesson here is to use soundex or other mediums when researching surnames!
