In Reply to: Fagan Family Lineage by Patrick James Fagan of 1703

My great-grandfather was born in Ireland in 1841, and was named Patrick James Fagan. He changed his name when he re-enlisted in the Civil War to James Patrick Fagan. He had 2 or 3 brothers that the family knows absolutely nothing about. They came over from Ireland with their father before James (along with his mother and a baby sister) did in 1848. The two females died at sea. James saw his brothers during one of the battles of the war; sat up and talked all night; they went back to battle the next morning and went into a building that was blown up just moments later. He never knew whether they survived or not. And never saw or heard from anyone else in the family. Family stories are great, but very hard to confirm. Does your family have a story similar to this one? James had two sons and two daughters, and died at age 97. I don't have much more info than that. My mother remembers him very well--she was in her 20's when he died.
