For James Fagan B 1883 (exact) in Co. Westmeath with the father's forename unknown, I found 1 rcd, Taughmon parish. The father's forename is Thomas.

His murder was probably investigated by a coroner. The search for the guilty was likely investigated by the police. If you know where it occurred, you could likely find these agencies' records or newspaper accounts.
